8x8 Acrylic on MDF
Whim 004
8x8 Mixed Media on MDF
But yesterday.....I felt much better and spent the better part of the afternoon in the studio. I started working on my Big Tex piece, but I must admit that painting fine lines and details is not really that exciting or interesting to me, so I stopped and whipped out these two abstracts. I am simply happier painting abstracts and working on mixed media collage works. These two continue with the Whim series and the plan is to coat them with resin. I've long wanted to try resin as a final coat to my work, as it provides so much depth and intensifies the colors in the work. I plan to order some today and hope to get started next week. The hubby cut twelve of these 8x8 MDF boards for me, so I'd like to have them all painted before I start with the resin.
Thanks for stopping by today. Wherever you are today, have a great Monday!

I really like your abstracts - colorful and inviting. Please stop by my blog and check out mine ...
Glad to see you back to painting! And dear heart, moving heavy things is what we keep these men around for, remember? Have fun with your abstracts.
I love both of these pieces! I also don't work when I'm on vacation. I think it's good to step away from the studio every now & then and not think about art & creativity!
I am all over the "take a break" theory these days. I think its good to just clear the mind because I know you have got alot going on up there. Have you downloaded Sketchbook Pro yet for your ipad?? I have avoided angry birds so far cause I know I will be sucked in.. Love your whims, especially the reds. Resin will look awesome on them! look forward to seeing the results. Hope your back straightens itself out:) Julie
I love these, Ann! I think they are my favorites so far!
I'm sorry your hurt your back, but it doesn't seem to do bad things for your art. :)
Glad you are feeling better, though.

Ah, you guys are great. My heart is smiling wide!
Ann, I am sorry you hurt your back! What a drag... I must say, Angry Birds can be good therapy though! LOL! Love it! Gosh, your work is amazing... love love love! :-) Kris
Ann - I always love your abstracts. Your combination of colors always seems so balanced.
By the way, I encourage a break even if it is playing Angry Birds - except sometimes they make angry. :)
Missed your posts but hey, you were on vacation and, if that means taking a break from art too, so be it. Sorry to hear about your back...I've been dealing with backache myself since Saturday so I empathise.
I love your abstracts, Ann! I'm very interested to hear your thoughts on the resin process. I've never tried it...seems a little scary to me for some reason.
Happy AEDM,
Serena
Love your color combos..the pinks are my favorite but both pieces are amazing..:)
This is a great series and I am glad to hear there will be more. I can't wait to see them with the resin finish, too. This is probably a stupid question, but what is MDF board? I am always looking for new substrates!
So beautiful and I have to say, I LOVE the second one. The colors just sing!! Can't wait to see what the resin does to it.

These are so you! Love them. The color says Ann all over it! Great to have you back!
Missed seeing your posts but glad you had a great break... as to the sore back... yikes, there is nothing worse and not at all pathetic... the paintings were worth all the time off though... the top one is special... great colours and textures... love it xx
Hi Ann Marie, Your abstract paintings look lovely! I especially love the movement in the first piece. I completely understand about not painting while on vacation! I think its good to have a complete break sometimes, and refresh and refill your creativity well. Sorry to hear about your back. Hope you get well soon!
